While the pontoon bridge often makes you wait and sometimes it takes nearly forever, the scenery around this bridge is superb, most particularly around sunrise and sunset. The south side of the bridge is a favorite fishing and crabbing spot for the locals.
Very hard working people work long hours to keep this old bridge operational. The bridge operators have a big responsibility to keep highway and water traffic flowing as smoothly as possible.
The bridge tenders are pretty considerate. I've seen them go out of their way to allow a wayward motorist to get through before stopping vehicle traffic.
Mostly open if your over the Bridge and it's closed stop at Fred's Lounge and wait there.

It catches me 90% of the time.... There's got to be a better or faster bridge design out there. I've been here me whole life and with the increase in shipments the bridge should get upgraded with that..
